Grant Serves To Highlight Overleaf Properties’ Environmentalism
The Oregon Coast Visitors Association (OCVA), a nonprofit focused on collaboration to foster a sustainable coastal economy, was so impressed with the length to which Overleaf Lodge & Spa and its sister property, The Fireside Motel, go to be environmentally conscious, that the organization awarded us grant funding to produce a trio of videos.
These videos were created to highlight our environmentalism for the benefit of Oregon Coast visitors who value choosing eco-friendly lodging and who value contributing to local environmental causes.
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
One of the three videos, “Refresh Your Spirits and Recharge Your EVs at Overleaf Lodge & Spa,” illustrates the investment the properties have made to install electric vehicle chargers with funding support from the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Both Overleaf Lodge & Spa and The Fireside have standard Level 2 chargers on site. These chargers are complimentary for guests and available first come, first served. To use a charger, guests ask for a radio-frequency identification card (RFID) key at the front desk. Non-guests may also use the EV chargers, if available, for a fee.
It’s a value-added feature, says Drew Roslund, co-operator of both properties with his wife, Kristin. “Our customers asked for chargers and we delivered.”
Cape Perpetua Collaborative, View The Future
Overleaf Properties also supports two local environmental stewards, Cape Perpetua Collaborative and View the Future.
Cape Perpetua Collaborative is a partnership dedicated to fostering conservation within the Yachats area, including the stunning Cape Perpetua Scenic Area, through scientific research and educational stewardship.
The video “Overleaf Lodge & Spa and Guests Support Cape Perpetua Collaborative” showcases the area’s beauty and the Roslunds’ contributions to the collaborative. Guests who stay at Overleaf Lodge & Spa contribute, too, voluntarily giving $1 per night for each night of their stay, which supports the collaborative’s work.
“Since 2021, we have collected over $30,000, which is targeted to the Cape Perpetua Collaborative,” Roslund says.
View the Future, a Yachats-based nonprofit that’s responsible for stewarding and conserving land and wildlife habitats in the Yachats area, maintains the publicly accessible oceanfront 804 Trail that is adjacent to the Overleaf Properties and a favorite among their guests.
The Roslunds contribute funds annually to the nonprofit, and guests of The Fireside voluntarily donate $1 per night of their stay for ongoing trail maintenance and upgrades, as highlighted in the video “The Fireside Motel Has a View to the Future with 804 Trail Support.”
“View the Future was a natural fit for us,” says Roslund. Through June 2023, total contributions from The Fireside and its guests are approximately $25,000. “This money is to be used for capital improvements to the 804 Trail and enhancing the experience through interpretation.”
Guests are welcome to donate more than $1 per night of their stay to these environmental stewards. All contributions are appreciated and help us to be eco-friendly together!
